Concert
Angelika Niescier New York Trio feat. Chris Tordini, Gerald Cleaver.
CD- Release, European Tour
The NYC Trio is throwing its play desire around in breathtaking speed, so it is a real joy. The trio explores every possible aspect of the interplay, sometimes chamber-musically fine and transparent, sometimes explosive impetuous and dense, always full of tension until the last note and the last break.
The band presents their new CD with music that is timeless and contemporary at the same time. The complexity and originality of the compositions is unmistakable, the organic structure leads the listener into manifold musical worlds, which makes the performance of the trio so exciting. With absolute sovereignty, the three transport a captivating intensity through their music and sound.
Tordini and Niescier have been working together for 10 years and Gerald Cleaver is also a long-time companion to them. Nevertheless the album is the first CD production and the tour the first of the trio in this form.
Chris Tordini and Gerald Cleaver are among New York's "finest players", Cleaver won the Down Beat Polls in the Rising Star category and plays with all heroes of jazz from Chris Potter to Bill Frisell to Tomasz Stanko. Chris Tordini tours with Becca Stevens, Jim Black and Chris Speed and is Tyshawn Korea's longtime rhythm group partner.
Angelika Niescier doesn't really need to be introduced to the German audience anymore. She is one of the musicians who constantly develop German jazz further and bring it to an international level. She has been awarded the German Jazz Prize/ Albert Mangelsdorff Prize, the Echo Jazz, and the German Record Critics' Quarterly Prize twice. She was an improviser in residence in Moers and her CD "Quite Simply" was jazzthing CD of the year, just to name a few of the many outstanding awards. She plays with jazz greats such as Joachim Kühn, Steve Swallow, Jim Black, Sylvie Courvoisier, Nasheet Waits, Ralph Alessi, Tyshawn Sorey, Achim Kaufmann and Gerry Hemingway.
