What is truth? Can there be unambiguity? Is what I am being told true? Norbert Gstrein, born in Tyrol in 1961, is considered a master of multiple perspectives. If you love black ice, you've come to the right place. Those who don't, likewise, because Gstrein's art, precisely through its virtuoso penchant for ambivalence, awakens the kind of reflection that makes one wary. "Stylistic master", "most refined German-language narrator", the critics outdo themselves with each newly published book by Gstrein, whose last novel, "Der zweite Jakob", was on the shortlist for the German Book Prize. It's about a first-person narrator, an actor who tries to cover up a terrible guilt, and readers stay on his trail until the very last page, so witty, furious and exciting is it all told.
