Cologne Music Week: Modularfield
mit: Surkid, Panic Girl, Lucid Grain, An on Bast, Desmond Denker
It is well known that harvesting takes place after summer. This is also the case with Modularfield. Surkid from Hamburg has planted his debut in the form of the EP "Trees" in the music landscape this spring. Now he shows what fruits can grow out of it in a live set. Panic Girl from Munich prefers to take care of your indoor plants and thinks about life in space. With the "Cake on Jupiter" vinyl both are now artistically connected, analog and spherical. This also applies to the Duo Lucid Grain, which forms you together with Anatol Locker. While one looks after the branches, the other looks after the leaves and flowers - just as Brian Eno recommends. So it fits quite well that the new longplayer of the two "Sustain & Release" will be under the tree this year. An on Bast from Breslau is probably our nightshade plant. While active listening and ambient sounds predominate beforehand, dancing is also allowed with her. What your new record "Coherent Excitations" and the vibrations in your modular system are all about is best seen in the fourth and last set of the evening.
Modularfield is the insider tip of the hour when it comes to handmade electronica of any kind. International, interdisciplinary, cross-genre - the Cologne indie label and artist collective is working on a vision. Sound carriers such as cassettes and vinyl as well as digital releases are available almost every month. Plus event series, live streams, DJ sets, videos, visuals. More than 20 artists now belong to the direct environment. And not a month goes by without a Modularfield act somewhere in the world.
