Der Literarische Salon mit Judith Schalansky

With Judith Schalansky, one of the most idiosyncratic authors in Germany comes to the Literary Salon. The 38-year-old art historian became internationally known with the "Atlas of Remote Islands" and the novel "The Neck of the Giraffe" - and not only for the text: As a trained book designer, she designed both works herself and won the Stiftung Buchkunst prize for the most beautiful book of the year. With the series "Naturkunden" she also made the genre of "Nature Writing" popular in Germany. And with her current book, she immediately created "a completely new genre", as stated in the justification for the Wilhelm Rabe Prize, which she received for the "Verzeichnis einiger Verluste" (List of Some Losses): "A compendium of the new kind that works to turn our knowledge order upside down. Whether a vanished island in the Pacific Ocean, the skeleton of a unicorn, the Caspian tiger, the illuminated texts of the founder of religion Mani, or the Palace of the Republic in Berlin - it is precisely these losses that Judith Schalansky transforms into abundant reading time. "A wondrous, a miracle book," even the jury prose sounded ecstatic.
