The Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra celebrates the end of the concert year with a Brazilian evening. The arranger, composer, guitarist and trombonist Emiliano Sampaio grew up in Sao Paolo and studied music in his hometown. He has lived in Austria since 2012, where he completed his doctorate at the University of Graz. As a composer and instrumentalist, Emiliano has received numerous awards such as the "Downbeat Student Award" in the categories "Best Jazz Guitarist", "Best Blues/Pop Guitarist", "Best Arranger", and "Best Composer for Large Ensemble".
In addition to his Brazilian roots, his music also features echoes of Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus, as well as influences from his adopted home country of Austria. As a conductor, arranger and composer he has worked with the HR Big Band, Wayjo (Perth), Toshi Clinch Big Band (Melbourne), Jugendjazzorchester Sachsen (Leipzig), Metropole Orkest (Netherlands), JazzKombinat (Hamburg), Lungau Big Band (Salzburg), Fette Hupe (Hannover), Uptown Big Band (Switzerland), Big Band Copenhagen, HRT Croatian Radio Band, Regensburg University Jazz Orchestra and several Brazilian groups like Badi Assad, Dominguinhos, Campinas Trombone Quartet, Experimental Orchestra of Ufscar, Soundscape Big Band, Speaking Jazz Big Band and many more.
