Helmut Phillipps' DUB Konferenz

Book Release: 50 Jahre Dub aus Jamaika

In the early 1970s, Jamaica revolutionizes the way the world handles sound recordings. There, where reggae is born, technology and music are combined in an unheard-of way. Studio recordings are broken down into their component parts and reassembled over lowered basses with reverb and echo. This innovation in production technology revolutionizes international chart and club music. It influences contemporary music in all its facets and does not even stop at classical music.
50 years later, the Jamaican invention is established as a global genre under the name "Dub".

Helmut Philipps has conferred with veterans, pioneers and inventors of the dub technique and tells the biography of Jamaican dub. His dub conference questions the myths and legends surrounding the genre and shows what has become of it.
