Jazz at Green Room: Kathrin Pechlof Trio feat. Leif Berger
As a trio, Kathrin Pechlof, Christian Weidner and Robert Landfermann have been playing together since 2011 and have consistently developed their collective concept over the years. This leads to a uniquely homogeneous playing culture characterized by blind trust and deep understanding. Composition and improvisation are blurred, traditional role models are dissolved, everyone is soloist:in, accompanist:in, impulse giver:in and pathfinder:in, the trio became a "meta-instrument" - a kind of collective unity. For this concert the three have invited the Cologne percussionist Leif Berger, who will enrich the trio with his multifaceted tonal and structural impulses on this evening and with whom they will shed new light on the trio repertoire.
About working together with their trio, Pechlof says, "A very important aspect in our work is friendship and a shared idea of musical freedom and what can grow under the terms "jazz and improvised music." In order to develop as human beings, we can't help but keep facing the unknown and opening ourselves up to the unfamiliar. We want to invite the audience to join us on a path that is not predefined. We want to invite the listeners to get involved with the unknown, to surrender to us and to the course of the music. If something happens internally while listening to music and someone comes out of the concert changed, then we've achieved something."
"A feeling of vastness and comfort sets in, life out there suddenly seems very out there. (...) Melodies, rhythms, accents, impulses flow in from everywhere, are picked up, dropped, spun on. No intoxication, but fine and subtlest impulses. Everything rises from the silence and sinks into it. The fading becomes an essential part of a sound, suddenly seems to be much more than its mere end." (Ulrich Stock, DIE ZEIT).
"Filigree chamber jazz, a graceful equilibristic dance between neutonal abstraction and improvised music." (Thorsten Hingst).
"In great strides, they survey the direct path to beauty with controlled determination, chastened eruptions and clever empathy." (Stefan Hentz, Jazzthing)
"The longer the concert lasts, the more intense the touch of the auditorium becomes through the music and the familiar atmosphere. Everyone in the hall moves mentally closer together and bends together over this delicate music and can almost hear the three who play it breathe." (Achim Ost, Giessener Anzeiger)
