Jazz at JAKI feat: Rainer Böhm Quartet
Rainer Böhm participated as bandleader and sideman in more than 60 CD recordings and has made a name for himself in the jazz scene as an internationally sought-after pianist. Already at a young age he was awarded with various prizes (e.g. Jazz Prize of the "Nürnberger Nachrichten", New German Jazz Prize, Prize for the best soloist at the international jazz competitions in 2002 in Hoeilaart/Belgium and 2005 in Getxo/Spain, 2003 and 2007 quarterly prize of the Deutsche Schallplattenkritik, 2007 the 1st prize at the international piano solo competition in Freiburg and 2010 Landesjazzpreis Baden-Württemberg). In addition to his activities as a pianist, he also teaches as professor for jazz piano and ensemble conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Nuremberg and Mannheim. His music is stylistically modern jazz, but at the same time influenced by various other styles of modern music.
With the Berlin saxophonist Ben Kraef and the two Cologne musicians Matthias Nowak and Silvio Morger he found three fellow musicians who help his music to a particularly great expressiveness. However, they do not only act as companions. Each band member uses soloistic freedom and fits perfectly into the individual group sound, which is characterized by energy, transparency, interaction and dynamics. Her current program is characterized above all by expressivity and strong melody lines. The emotional content of this music is always in the foreground of the quartet.
Rainer Böhm (piano), Ben Kraef (tenor saxophone), Matthias Nowak (doublebass), Silvio Morger (drums)
