Jazz at JAKI: Svetlana Marinchenko feat. Tobias Backhaus, Niklas Lukassen
The trio consisting of pianist and keyboardist Svetlana Marinchenko, drummer Tobias Backhaus and bassist Niklas Lukassen is a fusion of styles and different musical currents that can be summarized under the term modern jazz: The drama of Rachmaninov with the dreaminess of Debussy, electronic effects, groove and rocking energy, which combine to create a special musical language that the pianist knew how to discover and develop.
Svetlana Marinchenko is a jazz pianist from Moscow and studied in St. Petersburg with the famous pianist and teacher Andrei Kondakov. After successes in Russia, such as her participation in the television program Big Jazz, her participation in international festivals (Rajation Jazz Festival, FIN; Close Encounters, FIN; Jazz in Groningen, NL), the recording of her first album »Present Simple« with some of the most prominent most prominent representatives of the Russian jazz scene (Anton Davidyants, Peter Ivshin), participation in the television program "Observer", she also moved to Germany, Munich, in 2016 to study.
For 4 years, Svetlana has been actively exploring the German jazz scene with her trio, playing in various clubs and festivals, winning the Kurt Maas Jazz Award and an internship at Berklee (Boston), as well as second place at the International Pianist Competition in Langnau (Switzerland) under the patronage of Aaron Goldberg (New York). According to critics, Svetlana's playing combines elements of Russian classical and romantic music with the rhythmic pressure of jazz. Her playing is characterized by high energy, virtuosity and total dedication combined with songlike melody.
