Maciej Obara Quartet
Alto saxophonist Maciej Obara is ideally placed to follow the great Polish voices in jazz from Komeda to Stanko. His quartet includes the impressive and highly poetic pianist Dominik Wania and the two Norwegians Ole Morten Vågan on double bass and Gard Nilssen on drums. Four strong, individual musicians, each a bandleader and project leader in their own right, whose contrasting but complementary styles and astonishing sense of dynamics define the group's character.
Maciej Obara is like a fish in water at ECM Records, the label known for its precision and outstanding production. The new album Frozen Silence is the third ECM release by Obara's Polish-Norwegian quartet. It continues the story of Unloved and Three Crowns, recordings that confirmed the ensemble's position as one of the most distinctive European bands of the present day.
The quartet's creative flair for musical interplay is also at the forefront of this program. Obara's new music perfectly showcases his intuitive musical relationship with Dominik Wania, while Ole Morten Vågan and Gard Nilssen repeatedly transcend the roles of rhythm section and interact convincingly with the saxophonist and pianist.
The concert is part of the Europe Jazz Network's "EJN Green Pilot Tour" project, which promotes sustainable and environmentally friendly touring and events.
