»NICA exchange« at Cologne Jazzweek: Amalia Umeda Quartet
Polish violinist Amalia Umeda places a special focus on openness to new musical exits when making music together with her band. Through her compositions, she provides her fellow musicians with a structure of ideas, but always understands them as sketches. Made for the collective live moment and carried by the specific individual impressions in this. This gives the songs a unique form in every performance. Four unstoppable explorers with an immense space for sound possibilities and new forms of interplay depending on the current moment, the mood, the acoustics of the room and the energy of the audience.
NICA exchange takes place in cooperation with the NICA artist development program and Cologne Jazzweek. The main focus of the concert series, initiated in 2022, is to create spaces of exchange for a young, experimental generation of musicians, to encourage networking and creative exchange, and at the same time, in the context of the festival, to initiate a connection with an audience open to discovery.
Amalia „Umeda” Obrębowska (composition, violin), Franciszek Raczkowski (piano), Michał Aftyka (double bass), Michał Szeligowski (drums)
