»NICA exchange« at Cologne Jazzweek: Charley Rose Trio
Charley Rose Trio from Paris says about itself that it plays expressionistic jazz. On stage, it shows as follows: A multifaceted saxophone whose sounds crackle lyrically and are built up and deconstructed in turns, a fiery driven percussion and a straightforward piano that likes to risk an eruption. Influenced by 20th century composers and with a musical horizon that extends beyond jazz and free jazz to folk, metal and hardcore, the compositions of saxophonist Charley Rose are virtuosic and playful. This is the way jazz is created through the prism of three personalities who are not afraid to experiment together and who know how to engage with each other and the complexity of music again and again.
NICA exchange takes place in cooperation with the NICA artist development program and Cologne Jazzweek. The main focus of the concert series, initiated in 2022, is to create spaces of exchange for a young, experimental generation of musicians, to encourage networking and creative exchange, and at the same time, in the context of the festival, to initiate a connection with an audience open to discovery.
