NICA live: Rave/De Backer/Amadou/Coudoux

Since January, the four NICA Artists Elisabeth Coudoux, Pablo Giw, Pablo Held and Tamara Lukasheva have regularly presented musical ideas, visions, cooperations or discoveries under their names in the monthly concert series "NICA presents". We are very happy to continue the series as "NICA live" in the new open-air concert space GREEN ROOM in the back part of the outdoor restaurant of the Stadtgarten (the former "Al Bosco"). Tonight is curated by NICA Artist Elisabeth Coudoux.

This is the first meeting of four young representatives of the newer generation of European improvisational music. Signe Emmeluth, Hanne de Backer and Elisabeth Coudoux met each other in a project by Steve Swell at the Krakow Jazz Autumn Festival 2019, Farida Amadou has long wanted to invite Elisabeth to a concert. The Swedish saxophonist and composer Signe Emmeluth, who lives in Oslo, has long been one of the rising voices on the Nordic improvisation scene. She recently won this year's Norwegian jazz scholarship. Hanne De Backer is baritone saxophonist in many projects and actress in theatres such as the anarchistic Kamikaze-Collective Bookers & Hookers. She works and lives in Antwerp. Farida Amadou from Brussels/Liegé tours as electric bassist with many different musicians in Europe and the USA, collaborations with drummer Steve Noble, Alex Ward/clarinet, Chris Pitsiokos/saxophone, ex-Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston, free jazz pioneer Peter Brötzmann and the punk/noise band 'COCAINE PISS'. Together with the cellist Elisabeth Coudoux from Cologne, they will create a yet unexplored explosive sound cosmos, without many arrangements, collective, individual, virtuoso, unobjective, wild and poetic - probably.
