NICA live: Sophie Emilie Beha presents Romarna Campbell Trio feat. Kira Linn

For the first edition of the concert series NICA live in 2023, Sophie Emilie Beha - NICA artist 2022 - invites the British drummer, composer and producer Romarna Campell with her trio. Last autumn, she noticed the musician as a member of the Euroradio Jazz Orchestra, which gave a concert in Cologne.

The young British musician, who among other teachers studied with Terri Lyne Carrington at the Berklee College of Music, becomes a storyteller with her instrument. Her single "Inherently Political", released in 2020, can be heard as an acoustic attack against racism, musically influenced by jazz and hip-hop. "25 Songs For My 25th Birthday" is the name of the independently released debut of the now 26-year-old, on which musicians such as Soweto Kinch, Tomeka Reid, Sumi Tonooka and Lady Sanity also contributed. Seeing herself as standing on the shoulders of giants, Campell goes her own way.
