Annie Bloch's songs move in an opaque in-between, the space of electric tension, floating lightness and soulful approach. Motivated by an insatiable curiosity, she juxtaposes the sound of large concert halls with the charm of smoky jazz bars and alternative venues, intuitively blending supposed opposites into slowly unfolding urban folk odes. Her debut album "In Between," which she wrote and produced almost entirely in her room at the age of 18, tells of the impossible reconciliation of the inner and outer. In her second album, "Floors," which she recorded in a barn with a specially assembled ten-piece band, she takes the narrative into new, ever-changing sonic worlds. The raw and warm instrumentation is joined by personal, intimate and poetic lyrics that tell of wanderlust and homesickness, of America, "lost anchors" and late-night phone calls.

However, she sees her music not only as an amalgamation of distinct, musical genres, but also as a blending of the different spaces that have shaped her and her life. The classically trained organist and self-taught guitarist grew up in Diepholz, Lower Saxony, and studied music and literature in Cork. In addition to the German-Irish influences, the colorful San Francisco, the snowy Montreal and the rugged Faroe Islands also find their way into her growing musical cosmos, into which she invites her listeners to enter.
