Yuna © Steve Taylor
As the only singer from Malaysia who has achieved worldwide fame, YUNA is used to exceeding expectations. The singer and songwriter is often compared to Norah Jones, Feist, Ellie Goulding and Adele, but her music has long since found its own niche. This was already evident in 2012, when she released her first international album "YUNA", which contained the hit "Live Your Life" produced by Pharrell Williams. With the second album "Nocturnal" followed the next hit "Falling". After her 2016 album "Chapters" she released her new album "Rouge" this summer.
In "Rouge" YUNA thematizes her own emotional experiences. The title stands for the colour red, which she particularly appeals to. "It's a feeling I have right now. I just got married. I've become the woman I always wanted to be. The whole album is about how I feel about myself: I feel comfortable in my relationship and with the focus on my career. This colour stands for the fact that I became the woman I am today," describes YUNA. New R&B elements replace the catchy folk and pop sound that YUNA has been known for so far. But her style remains unchanged. She worked for two years to create an album that was stylish and timeless but still surprised listeners. She complements the songs with collaborations with artists like G-Eazy, Tyler, The Creator, Jay Park, Little Simz, Kyle, Miyavi and Masego.
