Cologne Music Week: GROVE / Souly

GROVE is not constant. GROVE fuses elements of dancehall, jungle, bass and pop to create a fluid sound. GROVE's sonic creations emerge from the "feminine" and "masculine" energies that reside within GROVE, and are filtered through a sensual and raucous lens. The lyrics are inspired by political anger and queer euphoria.

Souly's name pretty much sums up how he makes his music and how it's best heard. Through the soul, through the innermost, through feeling. "Not a rapper" he carried in front of him for a while, he considers himself a singer. First and foremost, though, Souly is a now-schooler. That is, he relies on vibes instead of genres and breathes lyrical collages on the hi-hat triplets to ultimately feel comfortable somewhere between the emotions of a twenty-something, turn-ups and just normal madness.
