Leroy Emmanuel Trio & MTT
Gast: Michael Theissing-Tegeler
Leroy Emmanuel is considered a venerable stalwart of US soul history. He has played with pretty much all the greats of funk & soul since the 60s and has participated in dozens of recordings. As a musical companion and friend of Marvin Gaye, he was an integral part of the Motown label from Detroit. Leroy Emmanuel is also featured on the Marvin Gaye album "You`re The Man," released posthumously in 2019. The "Rolling Stone" magazine interviewed him extensively about it.
The 4 albums of his own band "The Counts" from the 70s have cult status and have been sampled by the "who is who" of Hip Hop (Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Kayne West, Eric B. & Rakim etc.).
For almost 20 years, the charismatic singer and guitarist ("thumb style" á la Wes Montgomery - without plectrum)has been making tour stops in the cathedral city and he has lost none of his charisma and stage presence over the years. At 75, he still tours as regularly as others go to work. And that is a great fortune for every lover of this music.
The Austrian Hammond player Christian Wegscheider and the drummer Czaba Schmitz complete the "Leroy Emmanuel Trio" (Emmanuel's permanent band in Europe). Well-rehearsed with each other, the trio released an album in 2016, the vinyl version of which is already a coveted collector's item.
